What is adaptive review ordering?
Adaptive review ordering is one of the features that makes Langible the most powerful and user-friendly language learning platforms.
Put simply, it's a system that analyzes your previous language practice for each word, and uses that information to determine the best time to review it again. Difficult words are always
How does adaptive review ordering compare to traditional SRS?
Langible uses the SuperMemo2 algorithm to determine the number of days between flashcard reviews. But for any given day, a user might have dozens or even hundreds of flashcards due for review. Apps such as Anki generally don't handle this very well, and many users dread skipping a day as a result.
In contrast, the adaptive review ordering system used by Langible means that the most worthwhile flashcards are always the first ones to be reviewed on any given day. This means that if you only have time for a dozen flashcards, you can be certain that you'll be reviewing the 12 most important ones.
How does adaptive review ordering work?
In technical terms, adaptive review ordering breaks apart your sentence using natural language processing, which helps tell words apart from each other, identifying proper nouns and separating nouns from verbs. This is important because the same word can have different meanings depending on its context, and Langible's system is designed to recognize that.
For example, if were learning the word "bolt" in English, knowing that a "bolt" means a type of fastener when used as a noun is little help when you encounter the phrase "to bolt" in a sentence. Langible's system recognizes that these are two different words, and will treat them as such.
In addition to this, Langible's system also takes into account the difficulty of each word, by analyzing how you have performed in previous exercises involving a particular word. This means that if you're struggling with a particular word, you can be confident that you'll be reviewing it more frequently than words that you're more comfortable with.
Does adaptive review ordering work for custom exercises?
Yes! Adaptive review ordering works for all exercises, including custom ones. This means that you can be confident that you're always reviewing the most important words, no matter what exercise you're doing.
What are the downstream benefits of adaptive review ordering?
A big advantage of adaptive review ordering is you don't need to go through all your review exercises daily. It helps prioritize what you need to learn most, saving you time and effort.
You can add more flashcards, secure in the knowledge that it doesn't matter if you let it languish at the bottom of your review pile - you probably know it well enough already.
I'm thrilled to have put the finishing touches on adaptive review ordering in the last few days, and to be able to share it with you. I hope you find it as useful as I do!
